Walks occur at 7.30am (NSW) every Thursday morning and the second Sunday of every month at a variety of locations throughout the Tweed. There are approximately 240 bird species in the Tweed from those found by the ocean and estuaries through to the hinterland forests.

Time Warp - A Musical Tribute To The Rocky Horror Show Warning MA15+ Friday 12 March at 8pm Tickets - $30 Under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Not suitable for people under 15 years of age.

Seniors week is celebrated each year with a variety of events for the active or frail-aged residents and visitors of the area.

The Hyundai Malfunction Surf Festival features a surfing competition suitable for a range of abilities from family to elite level. One of the world's truly iconic events, the festival combines a weekend of traditional longboard surfing action with a community program of art, fashion and entertainment.

Enjoy a day of traditional country racing at the picturesque Murwillumbah Racecourse.

Battle on the Border is a competitive and social cycling event and includes 4 different levels of participation: (1) Competitive Cycling Tour Event (2) Social Mass Participation Cycle Ride (3) Under 19 National Road Championships (4) Disabled Athlete Paracycling Participation. It caters for divisions from juniors (13 years of age) up to and including Elite and Masters. This makes for a complete Family Event and fun social atmosphere.

Cotton Keays And Morris Saturday 1 May at 8.30pm Tickets - $27

Launched by legendary ironman, Trevor Hendy, the inaugural Saltwater Festival will feature an action-packed program of world-class ocean sports, beach and field events, live music and local food. The world’s top professionals will compete alongside amateur and social competitors in all the traditional ‘Aloha’ style paddle sports such as stand-up board paddling, ocean ski/kayaking, oceanboard paddling and outriggers, as well as surfing, kite surfing, Thunder Cat racing and surfboat racing. On land, there will be beach volleyball, touch football, hockey, beach flags, beach springs and the Element X kid’s race, while the foreshore will host market and food stalls plus free live music concerts.

The Inaugural Alstonville Rotary Antiques & Collectables Fair will be held on Saturday 15th May from 9.30am to 4.30pm & Sunday 16th May from 10.00am to 3.30pm. Gala opening on Friday evening 6.30pm to 9.00pm. Cost $10.00 inc food & a drink. Bookings essential. Approx 20 to 25 reputable NSW & interstate dealers will be offering a vast array of quality Antiques, Books and Collectables from around the world. Some of the items for sale will include antique furniture, oil lamps, toys, dolls, jewellery, fine china, stamps, coins, glass, porcelain & royal doulton. Food and refreshments will be available. Admission $5.00 for adults and children under 14 free when accompanied by an adult. Plenty of parking in the grounds and proceeds go to rotary charities.

Events June 2010

The Wintersun Festival is a 10 day annual retro nostalgia festival featuring more than 1500 pre-1974 hot rod, classic, and custom cars in driving events and static display.

There will be 100 bands and performers playing Rock and Roll, Rockabilly, Swing, Concept and Tribute. Performers are from every State in Australia as well as international acts. Also enjoy market stalls featuring all things retro as well as traditional markets, fairground, Street Parades and lots of family fun.

More than 75,000 people attend this event which has been running since 1988 so put on your dancing shoes, turn back the clock and remember when the good times rolled!

Open day, 5th June, at the Marine Museum. A range of activities, speakers and presentationss to mark this important month.

Events August 2010

Times: Saturday, 7 August 2010 (9.00 am to 5.00 pm) & Sunday, 8 August 2010 (10.00 am to 3.00 pm)

Dealers from several States offering a wide selection of antique & vintage items including jewellery, silver, china, crystal, furniture, books, militaria, postcards and much more. Refreshments available. Admission $5.00 per adult, accompanied children (under 12) free.

One of the major annual events in the Tweed Valley, the Banana Festival features art and craft exhibitions, fashion parades, banana display and lots of social events. On the main parade day (21 August) over 150 floats representing community groups, local businesses, religious groups and the Festival Queen candidates, travels through the streets of Murwillumbah to the showgrounds where a carnival continues on into the night.

Events September 2010

The extraordinary acoustics of the Tyalgum village hall attracts some of Australia's leading classical artists who perform each year at this three-day series of instrumental and vocal concerts. Lovers of fine music should make every effort to experience this unique event. 

On Sunday 5 September an informal outdoor concert will be held in the showgrounds in the afternoon - great for a family picnic under the trees.  

Circuit racing through the main street of Murwillumbah by classic racing vehicles from past grand prix eras.

Speed on Tweed has attracted many legendary drivers over the years, including Sir Jack Brabham, Vern Schuppan, Frank Gardner, Jim Richards, Kevin Bartlett, Dick Johnson and John Goss.

Sir Jack’s Repco-Brabham was one of many grand prix cars to have graced Murwillumbah’s streets, along with numerous Bathurst winners, Le Mans sports cars and many others that told the story of Australia’s motor racing history.

The non-profit event also raised more than $160,000, which has been given to national charities such as the Childrens Cancer Institute, the Peter Brock Foundation, service clubs, schools emergency services and hospitals.

Kingscliff Triathlon is situated in one of the most stunning coastlines in Australia. Swim through the estuary into open water, cycling around the Tweed Valley terrain and run by the beach in either the Tempta or Almost Olympic Events.

Celebrating the life force of the Tweed River in northern NSW, this festival combines educaton with a range of competitions, displays, boating events, walks and, on the final Saturday evening, a spectacular lantern parade at Jack Evans Boat Harbours, Tweed Heads.

If you can't make it to Flemington this year, Murwillumbah Racecourse hosts one of the biggest Melbourne Cup Day events in country NSW.

A traditional country show at its best in the magnificent setting at the Murwillumbah Showgrounds. Jam packed with a variety of heritage displays, dog shows, trade displays, reptile world, cane exhibit, live music sideshow alley, beef cattle judging, animal nursery, bull & bronc spectacular, showjumping, ute & pushbike show, craftwork, woodchopping, grand parade and finale fireworks....

At the twin towns of Coolangatta and Tweed Heads you get two New Year's Eve for the price of one. Crowds start in Tweed Heads, celebrating the first stroke of midnight with fireworks on the NSW side of the border then pour across the road to Coolangatta to celebrate again in Queensland one hour later!
