Walks occur at 7.30am (NSW) every Thursday morning and the second Sunday of every month at a variety of locations throughout the Tweed. There are approximately 240 bird species in the Tweed from those found by the ocean and estuaries through to the hinterland forests.

Events April 2010

An interactive and exciting family event showcasing the rich cultural diversity of the Tweed Shire. This year's line up includes nationally acclaimed 'Oka' as well as music, dance, art, craft, stories and food of the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities of the region.The event kicks off at 10am and culminates at 10pm. A must see event for 2010! $20 per adult, $5 concession and children(under 16) free.

Events August 2010

Murwillumbah Theatre Company in Association with Dominie Pty Ltd presents this brilliant comedy by Martin McDonagh and directed by Rachael Gorham and Jim Dickson at the Murwillumbah Civic Centre.  Friday and Saturday nights at 7.30pm and Sunday matinee 22 Aug 2pm.  Tickets $15 Adults $5 School Students available from Murwillumbah Music Shop or at the door.

In a small house on a big hill, in the wild Irish countryside, the Folan women live out an uneasy alliance.  Maureen (Rachel Forham), a middle-aged spinster, lives with her elderly, manipulative mother, Mag (Marie Dickson).  Maureen's sisters have flown the nest, but Maureen remains at home, trapped in a dysfunctional relationship with ther mother.  The arrival of an invitation from the Dooley brothers (Noel Thompson and Logal Reilly) sparks hopes of a lst-chance romance and offers Maureen the prospect of an escape to a new life.  Things might just be looking up for her...

The extraordinary acoustics of the Tyalgum village hall attracts some of Australia's leading classical artists who perform each year at this three-day series of instrumental and vocal concerts. Lovers of fine music should make every effort to experience this unique event. 

On Sunday 5 September an informal outdoor concert will be held in the showgrounds in the afternoon - great for a family picnic under the trees.

Speed on Tweed has attracted many legendary drivers over the years, including Sir Jack Brabham, Vern Schuppan, Frank Gardner, Jim Richards, Kevin Bartlett, Dick Johnson and John Goss.

Sir Jack’s Repco-Brabham was one of many grand prix cars to have graced Murwillumbah’s streets, along with numerous Bathurst winners, Le Mans sports cars and many others that told the story of Australia’s motor racing history.

The non-profit event also raised more than $160,000, which has been given to national charities such as the Childrens Cancer Institute, the Peter Brock Foundation, service clubs, schools emergency services and hospitals.

Saturday and Sunday: there are rides both morning and afternoon on both days ranging from easy (flat) to challenging (10 organised rides in total).  Distances from 5 to 50 kilometres all starting and finishing at the Showground.  For the keen cyclist this means you can do 4 different rides over the weekend.  Experience the beauty of the Tweed Valley on a bike.

The Ukitopia Art Collective?s major festival fundraiser is coming up on the 18th September and set to be a hoot! The free annual Ukitopia members costume party is the opportunity for Ukitopia members to renew their annual membership subscription and for those newbie?s, a chance to join. Events October 2010

The UNITY festival is an colourful mix of rich and diverse cultural influences from the Tweed and Bryon Shires, infused to create an exciting family event. The theme for this year is Celebrating Diversity and will feature world music and dance, exotic costumes, global food and local art. The UNITY festival, now in its second year is being extended to a 10 hour event and will offer a Main Stage headlining DEYA DOVA and a Dance Stage featuring African, Indonesian, Filipino, Torres Strait Island, Indian and South Sea Island communities. FREE children’s activities include making dream catchers, tunnels, gardens and puppets with recycled materials and drumming and weaving workshops. If you can't make it to Flemington this year, Murwillumbah Racecourse hosts one of the biggest Melbourne Cup Day events in country NSW.

A traditional country show at its best in the magnificent setting at the Murwillumbah Showgrounds. At the twin towns of Coolangatta and Tweed Heads you get two New Year's Eve for the price of one. Crowds start in Tweed Heads, celebrating the first stroke of midnight with fireworks on the NSW side of the border then pour across the road to Coolangatta to celebrate again in Queensland one hour later!
